Ekeno Augostine
6. Ekeno Augostine S.J., (1978), AOR, Regent at AJAN, minister of AJAN House and assistant coordinator of AJAN, writing, workshops:communications, workshop at Radio Kwizera (media), annual reports and AJANews (a) Raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, (b) Communication, (c) Education.
A workshop at Radio Kwizera, Ngara, Tanzania, aimed at training journalists how to ethically communicate issues related to HIV/AIDS. That is, providing necessary and ethically defined skill of communication about HIV/AIDS that helps to dissolve the tension by simply ridiculing various practices that perpetuate stigmatization, and rejection. Moreover, with a humanized dimension of sexuality, we sensitize and inform the young generation on possible ways of guarding themselves from infection of HIV.
We are involved in strengthening and maintaining communications and information sharing among all the Jesuits in the Assistancy. Our target is to support the network through communications to help coordinate efforts, for speaking up as a group for every kind of linking. To do so I participate in the regular continuance and contribution to our AJANews or AJAN report.
From a personal perspective, AJAN, as an Assistancy apostolate, provides me and my Jesuit companions the opportunity to serve and experience the suffering Christ. Being part of AJAN, I feel right and privileged to educate people on the social challenge, that is, AIDS. I feel am no longer a ‘passive’ recipient but an active participant in AJAN’s vision and objectives in the African Assistancy, namely: bringing together Jesuits involved in HIV/AIDS ministry into a working group; helping in binding these working groups into an effective continental Jesuit network; and enhancing good relations of co-operation with many other groups and associations and with the larger Church and Society of Jesus.
